Overview

Repeatedly ranked as one of the world’s most liveable cities, multi-cultural Melbourne has much to offer: history and heritage, shopping and sport, fabulous food and fun roof top bars, but the Victorian capital is also the gateway to so much more, and much of which can be enjoyed as a day trip from the city.

Whether you’re into walks, wildlife or wine; scenic drives, spas or sport; geology or culinary, we have your special interest covered in Melbourne and Victoria.

    Highlights

    • Melbourne, Australia’s multicultural food and sporting capital
    • Phillip Island, a wildlife lover’s mecca
    • Yarra Valley wine country and the Dandenong rainforests
    • Great Ocean Road and the 12 Apostle
    • East Gippsland is famous for its forest wildlife, particularly big mammals, birds and reptiles. It is a fabulous place for parrots and cockatoos – they are numerous, visible and noisy.

    Activities

    • Tour, walk, stay or fly over the Great Ocean Road and see the iconic 12 Apostles rock formations. Whether you have half a day or a whole week to explore this region, we can design an itinerary to excite.
    • See little penguins march up the beach at sunset on Phillip Island. During your visit here you can also see koalas, kangaroos, seals and birds, just ask us how.
    • Ride the historic Puffing Billy steam train through the Dandenong’s beautiful rainforests and sip award-winning sparkling wines in the Yarra Valley, all in a day’s adventure and all only an hour from Melbourne.
    • Walk among giant tree ferns to spectacular waterfalls and paddle a canoe to spot the elusive platypus in the Great Otway National Park (pair this perfectly with a visit to the Great Ocean Road).
    • Visit award-winning wineries and delicious farm gates in the Mornington Peninsula. With beautiful beaches, thermal spas, galleries and golf courses, this is where Melbourne comes to play!
    • Hike in the gorgeous Grampians to learn ancient indigenous legends told through Aboriginal rock art dating back more than 20,000 years!
    • Taste your way around Melbourne’s lively Queen Victoria Markets and dine your away around some of the country’s best restaurants.
    • HIDDEN GEM: The You Yangs. Tour here (just over an hour from Melbourne) with Insight Australia to become a koala researcher for a day. You are likely to see koalas in the wild, kangaroos roaming freely and a wide variety of native birds in their natural habitats.
    • HIDDEN GEM: The Mighty Murray region. The High Country and riverlands that border Victoria with South Australia and New South Wales offer dark skies for star gazing and opportunities to tour outback ‘moonscapes’.
