Itinerary

Day 1

Landing in the Land of Legends: St George by River & Wine

Your adventure begins with a flight from Brisbane to St George (not included). Get a birds eye view of the lush Darling Downs agricultural region which is a major watershed of the Murray Darling River system. You will be welcomed on arrival in St George by your Savannah Guide Operator driver-guides. After a short drive, experience the Balonne River on board the ‘Balonne Baroo Andoo’ nature cruise, taking in the local flora, fauna and cultural history of the area with enriched commentary and wildlife encounters. We’ll take in the highlights of the St. George area including a visit to the famous ‘Unique Egg’ before checking in for the first night. This evening, we travel to the Riversands Winery for an informative Vineyard Tour with wine tastings and Dinner. Overnight Riverland Motor Inn, St George. Meals: Dinner included.

Day 2

Outback Echoes: Indigenous Wisdom & the Spirit of the Cunnamulla Fella

Start the day with breakfast before travelling to Bollon and stopping by the Nullawokka Gallery for a personal tour and experience with a Guwamu/Kooma guide and join them for a bush tucker lunch. From there, we travel onto Cunnamulla, where you will browse exhibits featuring the rich culture and heritage of the region at the Cunnamulla Fella Centre, featuring the larger-than-life statue in tribute to the Aussie larrikin stockman himself. Take the chance to experience the Cunnamulla Hot Springs in the afternoon with drinks and canapes. Overnight at Club Boutique or Warrego Hotel Motel, Cunnamulla. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner included.

Day 3

The Pub with No Town & A Sunset to Remember

This morning, we head deeper into Outback Queensland, we call into the historic Eulo Queen Hotel and learn about the Eulo Queen with tea or coffee in hand. We’ll stop for lunch at the Toompine Hotel, the pub with no town, enroute to Toogunna Plains Farmstay. We will have some time to relax before enjoying an exclusive sunset tour to nearby rolling red Kyra sandhills where the contrasting outback colours dazzle. Finish the night with a gourmet paddock-to-plate dinner experience. 2 Night Stay at Toogunna Plains Farmstay, Quilpie. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner included.

Day 4

From Sheep Stations to Sauropods: A Journey Through Time

Today, we are treated to an exclusive station tour of Toogunna Plains. Learn the history of this 4th generation family-owned sheep and cattle property. This afternoon we get the chance to take some time to relax and enjoy the panoramic views of this vast open plain. This evening, we travel to Eromanga, the furthest town from the sea and home to Australia’s largest dinosaur. Get up close to a 95-million-year-old dinosaur bone on the Australian Dinosaur Giant’s Tour at the Eromanga Natural History Museum. Wander the interpretive corridor and see the multi-media theatre experience before enjoying dinner at the Museum. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, dinner included.

Day 5

From Opal Altars to Outback Skies: Quilpie to Cosmos

Following breakfast, we look around the township of Quilpie on a guided tour, including visiting St Finbarr’s Church where we can admire the stunning opal altar, lectern and font. Heading east, we will tour the lake. Located a short drive from downtown Quilpie, Lake Houdraman is a beautiful expanse of water set amongst shady gum trees. Learn more about the property with a guided station tour before we head to the Brick Hotel to enjoy a delicious lunch. Early evening, visit the Cosmos Centre for the Big Sky Twilight Tour. See an amazing night sky brought into focus with the help of powerful Meade telescopes and listen to captivating stories from their experienced sky guides. 2 Nights Mulga Country Motor Inn, Charleville. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner included.

Day 6

Charleville’s Time Capsules: From WWII Secrets to Outback Survivors

This morning, be inspired by the farmer who turned a long-term dream into reality with a tour of the Charleville Date Farm. Learn how dates grow and how reclaimed water came to be used for this environmentally friendly project. Then we will visit the top-secret site of the United States Army Air Force. Visit the intriguing historical sites, understand the reasoning behind choosing Charleville as a WWII base and learn about the highly classified computerized bomb aimer. Next, we’ll step inside the famous Hotel Corones, built during Charleville’s wool industry boom. Join a guided tour with exclusive access to normally restricted areas of the hotel. Hear the rags to riches story of local character Harry Corones, followed by lunch in the hotel dining room. After lunch, we visit the Charleville Bilby experience for a tour of the nocturnal house located at the historic railway station and information centre. Enjoy some leisure time down town Charleville before a relaxing dinner at the Mulga Country Motor Inn. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner included.

Day 7

Teddies, Trailblazers & the Golden Age of Wool

As we travel from Charleville to Blackall, we get the chance to discover the charm of Tambo, the ‘outback teddy capital of Australia’ and Tambo Teddies, premium Australian teddy bears handcrafted from natural woollen sheepskin. After a teddies picnic lunch, we follow the famous barcoo river to Blackall to where we take in the sights and learn the legends of where the energy and foresight are very clear from the explorers’ and early surveyors’ first drilling of artesian water, and the industrial confidence in the Blackall Wool Scour; not to mention learning the legend of Jackie howe the famous shearer who shore 321 sheep in 7 hours and 40 minutes with hand shears. Check in to our accommodation for a break, prior to a great late afternoon tour of the historic Blackall Wool Scour including Dinner. Overnight Oasis Motor Inn, Blackall. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner included.

Day 8

Barcaldine to Longreach: Where Workers Dreamed and Qantas Took Flight

This morning, we travel into Barcaldine and visit the Australian Workers Heritage Centre. Their mission is to honour all workers - past, present and future and help preserve a vitally important part of Australian heritage and culture. The museum is also home of the Tree of Knowledge, a vibrant and beautiful Australian Ghost Gum and the only living descendant of the original Tree of Knowledge. Feel the freedom of the vast open plains on our way to Ilfracombe to explore the unique attractions in “the Hub of the West” take in the Wellshot centre, the Machinery Mile, and grab some lunch at the famous Wellshot Hotel. After we check in to our accommodation, we get the chance to explore the evolution of Qantas from its start in Queensland’s Outback to a global airline through a self-guided tour. Late afternoon, join the Drover’s Sunset Cruise on the beautiful Thomson River. Unwind with onboard nibbles as you gaze out to a magnificent outback sunset. Enjoy live entertainment and a two-course camp oven themed dinner under the stars at Smithy’s Outback Dinner & Show. Overnight Longreach Motor Inn, Longreach. Hall of Fame: Where Outback Legends Come to Life

This morning, we explore the fascinating themed galleries at the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame and discover inspiring stories of our pioneering heroes. After a farewell lunch in Longreach, your outback adventure will come to an end as we transfer you to your departure terminal, with memories and stories to tell your friends and family for years to come.
