Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Adelaide

Today you will be arriving in Adelaide. We have booked a room including breakfast for you at the Holiday Inn Express Adelaide. There is no scheduled program, the day is at your own leisure. No meals included.

Day 2

The Township of Burra & Farmhouse Photography Session

We will meet at approximately 8:30am-9am in our hotel and depart Adelaide, heading towards the township of Burra. There we will stop for an early lunch and unpack the cameras to capture the famous Midnight Oil Diesel and Dust album cover farmhouse, as photographed by Ken Duncan. After our lunch and farmhouse session we will continue on, heading further north towards the township of Hawker for a quick pit stop to stretch the legs, before moving on to our home for the next 5 days, Rawnsley Park Station. After settling into our new accommodation we will head out in to the Ranges to start exploring with our cameras, with afternoon and sunset sessions leading into our dinner time back at Rawnsley Park Station. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.

Day 3

Sunrise at Pugilist Hill, Bunyeroo Gorge, Sunset at Razorback Lookout

We awake to the sounds of the Corellas and make our way out to capture the first light of the day from the overlook of Pugilist Hill - a stunning view of the eastern side of the Ranges as the sun baths them in early morning glow. After we return for breakfast we will gear up and get set for a full day exploring the Ranges, including the Bunyeroo Gorge, with lovely river gums and ancient rock formations from millions of years ago. Our day will be spent exploring the gorge and the amazing wildlife and geology of the region before setting up for our sunset session on the Razorback Lookout - a view that is a must for anyone visiting the Ranges. We will then return to our accommodation for dinner and well-earned rest. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.

Day 4

Sunrise at Huck’s Lookout, Ruins, Kanyaka Station & Windmills

Another early rise, this time to head a bit further north on the Ranges to capture the sunrise from Huck’s Lookout - another impressive view with beautiful grass trees and Ringneck Parrots to help with our foregrounds. We will return for another hearty breakfast before we head out for the day’s photography activities. Today we will explore some old ruins that litter the plains around the Ranges. We will explore the old Hawker Church and then head further south via Hawker to photograph the Kanyaka Station - a ruined township that offers up incredible black and white photography opportunities. We return to Hawker via other ruins as we sit down for a well needed lunchbreak and relaxation for an hour or so. After lunch we will head out for the first time to explore the western side of the Ranges. Heading up to the township of Parachilna and checking out the old disused railway that hosted the famous Ghan train ride through the heart of Australia. As we head back, late afternoon light will stop us in our tracks as we set up for our sunset session on the Moralana Road - picture a rusty old windmill, the towering Ranges and golden outback light. This is a classic outback Australia location for sunset and one that rarely fails. After sunset we head back to our accommodation for the night - coming down from our excitement of the day to rest our weary heads. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.

Day 5

Sunrise from Stokes Hill, Glass Gorge, Bliman, Parachilna & Brachina Gorge

We rise again for yet another stunning sunrise at the Ranges. This time we will travel into the north of the Ranges for a towering sunrise from Stokes Hill. This location gives 360 degree views of the Ranges and surrounding vast outback landscape. We return for a breakfast and quickly freshen up before we head to the northernmost location of our tour, the Glass Gorge, via the old mining town of Bliman. As we make our way through the gorge we will encounter impressive limestone creek beds and other interesting geological features. Keep an eye out for kangaroos and emus along this road as they will also be up early for their morning strolls. The Glass Gorge will lead us to another amazing gorge of the Ranges, the Parachilna Gorge. This road will again offer up endless photograph opportunities of wildlife, views and incredible rock formations created many, many years ago. After a lunch break and quick rest we will head off again and make our way south towards the Brachina Gorge. Perhaps my favourite gorge of the region, Brachina Gorge has it all. Beautiful dried up creek beds with towering river gums, geology formations that just insist on you stopping to photograph them, and if we are lucky, we will capture the rare and threatened Yellow Footed Rock Wallabies. A truly beautiful animal in this stunning region. After we complete our journey through the Brachina Gorge we will set up for sunset at Grass Tree Hill – a tall and lonesome grass tree with vistas all round, which makes for a great end to the day. Weather permitting, we will look to capture the Milky Way and all that is our solar system from one of our sunset locations. Flinders Ranges offers incredible clear skies for astrophotography. After this session we again return to our rooms to retire after a well-deserved dinner. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.

Day 6

Ruins, Hawker and Departure from the Flinders Ranges

As sad as it is, today is our last morning here in the Flinders Ranges. A lazy start as we have ourselves a lovely breakfast before getting ourselves ready to pack up and check out of Rawnsley Park Station to start our journey back to Adelaide. The morning will consist of some more photography of ruins as we make our way south back through Hawker, and then along the RM Williams Hwy before stopping into the township of Jamieson for lunch and a stretch of the legs. Along the way there are lots of stunning views, fields and other noteworthy locations to take photographs, before we arrive back into Adelaide and ready ourselves to check in to our accommodation for the night. A finale dinner will be held in Adelaide before we say our goodbyes on our amazing adventure. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.

Day 7

Departure from Adelaide

After breakfast, check out of your hotel. End of Tour.
