Begin at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary for close encounters with Tasmanian devils, wombats, quolls, wallabies, and famously gentle kangaroos that can be hand-fed. The journey continues through the picturesque Derwent Valley to Mount Field National Park, Tasmania's oldest, where towering swamp gum forests and the magnificent Russell Falls reward a short rainforest stroll. Stop in the charming town of Deloraine, a good spot to look for platypus in the wild, before continuing to Sheffield, known for its impressive collection of outdoor murals. The day concludes with arrival at the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, where the ancient alpine wilderness of this iconic landscape sets the scene for the days ahead. Immerse yourself in the heart of the Wulinantikala / Cradle Mountain wilderness on the Dove Lake Circuit, a 2.5-hour bushwalk through one of Tasmania's most spectacular alpine settings. Highlights include the enchanting Ballroom Forest and the serene lakeside beaches, with native flora and fauna interpretation throughout. Weather permitting, a variety of alternative walks are available to suit conditions and personal interests. The afternoon brings a Joey Encounter at Devils@Cradle Conservation Sanctuary, an intimate experience with the world's largest surviving carnivorous marsupial in a natural bush setting.
